About Us - Club Base
The Yacht Club "Saint Nicolay" disposes of the following vessels:
- Yacht "Ronin" – class Melges 24.
Melges 24 was created by Reichel Pugh in December 1992, and tested in the snow of lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
In 1992, Buddy Melges won the Americas Cup with America3 in San-Diego, California. This success took Melges up the ladder. With a boat designed by Reichel Pugh, Buddy Melges won the America’s Cup together with Bill Koch. Their campaign symbolizes the last successful participation in winning the cup by an American team
In 1993, Melges 24 is officially on display. With the very first appearance came recognition and a new standard for high speed boats was created. Four years later it shocked the yachting word by already having a world competition organized in Torquay, England. Five years later, in La Rochelle, France, it had grown to become the biggest world competition with 127 participants
For many yachtsmen, the monotype is the best way to compete under sail. In theory everything in this case is the same except the skipper and the crew.
Melges 24 is a very successful project which combines the speed of a centre-board boat with the stability of big boats. If J/24 is described as a new step in the design of 24 foot boats, Melges 24 is the next big thing.

- Boat "Laser"
In 1969 the Canadian builder Bruce Kirby developed one of the most famous world-wide yacht-dinghies, which was named Laser. It appeared on the international arena in 1971, and became a very desirable yacht. At the moment the total number of boats made exceeds 200 thousand. In 1993 the boat Laser acquired Olympic status.
There are several different modifications of Laser. In the Peking Olympic Games in 2008 the Laser-Radial for women was also included.
Laser belongs to the class of the racing centre-board boat – monohull. The yacht construction is not complicated and, because of that, is very popular amongst yachtsmen. The main concept of the class is expressed by the formula ‘three boats in one’. Its attraction lies in its simplicity: in the same hull only the lower part of the mast and the surface of the sail is changed. The yacht with the larger sail is the Laser Standard, and is used by men with experience, and "Laser Radial" by women and older children. The smallest "Laser-4,7" is to be used by the younger children.
